Santa Cruz Retro Triathlon
June 18 - July 30 Beginner's Clinics
Race - August 14
Have you always wanted to do a triathlon but thought it was too daunting or too expensive? The USA Triathlon Retro Tri Series is a youth and adult multisport event that combines swimming, biking, and running as a clinic that is followed by a "graduation race". The focus is on fun and participation rather than competition. No need for fancy gear if you don't have it! Even better if you want to join in the fun in attire that harkens back to the early days of triathlon in the 70s.
Distances for this race will be a 300m swim, 6 mile bike ride, and 3K run.
It's a perfect opportunity to experience triathlon for the first time. To make it even easier we've added two options for you to select - the race only, or the race and two included training clinics. If you don't want to commit right away to the race you can join us for the clinic sessions and decide later.
To participate in the USA Triathlon Retro Tri Series, athletes must be at least 13 years of age. The Retro Tri Series will serve to expose and continue to educate all participants on a healthy and active multisport lifestyle. It is open to first-timers, seasoned veterans, people re-entering the sport, and those looking to stay active, all while getting a chance to experience a fun and exciting event atmosphere.
June 18 - 1st Retro Tri Clinic - Intro and Open Water Swim Clinic
July 23 OWS Clinic (additional clinic with OWS only)
July 30 - 2nd Retro Tri Clinic - Transition and Rules/OWS
The Retro Tri race will be held in conjunction with Tri Santa Cruz on August 14 and will be the last wave group to participate. This race will not be ranked. USAT one-day or annual membership is required in addtion to the registration fees for this clinic-race combination.
